Longer names
Has anybody else come up with a great name for a char only to find it one letter too long? That really pisses me off! Tonight for example I was going to start a new Necro with a great name only to find out it's one letter too long. What is that letter? Why it's the space in between the two names. Since when has a space been classed as a character?
I'd like to see the number of characters allowed in a name extended to 20 at least, 19 is such a weird figure to have anyway.

Since it's a key on the keyboard, it's a character, that simple. As for 19 characters, while I don't know ANet's reasoning for the number, it's been ample for me.

19 characters is good enough for me. My reasoning:
Does this look familiar?
Leeeeeeeeerrrooooy Jeeenkins
I do not need another E in there.
Would sign if people could actually think of a real name.

That is a real name. It is the current Guinness world record for the longest name.. Or at least it used to be. So theres a real name.. And it's 59 characters including spaces.

Those guild names are awesome. But back on topic, make it 20, and names are good.

20:
Galigord Stonestrike
21 here:
King Jalis Ironhammer
Mallyx the Unyielding
Graygore Boulderbeard
This one takes the cake with 23:
Thorgall Bludgeonhammer
Need I say more? Honestly, Galigord Stonestrike is one of the best fictional game names I have ever heard.

Well, my real World name has 10 characters in each and that's not including my middle name! So, quite frankly your sentence jibe is null and void.

it's 19 characters because spaces count. So you have 9 for your first name, 9 for your last name. So you have a lot of letters to use already, quit whining.

If they were to allow people to have longer names, then they would have to allow everyone in game to alter their name. Because I'm sure that there are many people who have names that they would like to use, but had one letter too many, so instead they came up with a better name.
I can think of a real name that takes up only 5 characters, "Al Li." I'm fairly certain that there is someone with that name, somewhere.
Really though, try staying away from the eastern european names (those things can get long) and try for more simplistic names, like Fred (Fredrick).

Definitely enough latitude for the making of crappy names in Guild Wars.
It's amazing to observe the utter lack of imagination of players who are playing a game entirely rooted in a fantasy world that is fully sprung from the human imagination.
It must be some weird anti-role playing blow back that causes people to name their characters in as an extreme anachronistic manner as possible.
